Jesus, after three years of ministry revealing the Gospel of the Kingdom, died for the sin of the world on a cross made for sinners. Spending three days in the grave, He rose to life and appeared to His disciples teaching, commissioning, and empowering them to do the same things He had done, and promising them the gift of His Spirit after He left to be with His Father.

In the book of Exodus, we see that God gave the law to Moses on tablets of stone with certain instructions for building the Tabernacle. There were fifty days from the first Passover, in which the Israelites were delivered to Mt. Sinai where the law was given. After receiving the Commandments, Moses came down the mountain to deliver the law but stopped short of reaching the bottom because he looked down to find the people breaking the first command. “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make any graven image.” The Israelites had formed a golden calf cast from the gold they brought out of Egypt.

Because of the judgment of the law, three thousand people had to die at the hands of the Levites (priests). Had Moses come all the way down with the tablets, they would have all died. God’s mercy led Moses to go back up the mountain to receive another set of stones.

Fifty days after Jesus’ last Passover, where the Lamb of God was killed, one hundred twenty disciples were in an upper room waiting for the promised Spirit. When a mighty rushing wind blew through, tongues of fire landed on each of them, and the Holy Spirit filled each person. That day, three thousand people came to faith.
