Only Jesus

I have been increasingly convinced that any teaching or topic outside of Jesus and only Jesus is futile and frustrating. I am going to be honest and transparent: recently, the concept of “ministry” has been overwhelmingly disappointing. Sometimes, pastors think that if we teach people how to give, how to behave, and how to be a good Christian, etc., it will make everyone get in line and act accordingly. Indeed, there is a time when teaching right vs. wrong is necessary, but outside of the person of Jesus, it actually causes more problems and stirs up sin in people. If I discuss how to be a good wife, my inbox suddenly floods with women seeking counsel because their marriage is chaotic. If I teach on gossip and slander, disagreements and fights suddenly begin to break out. etc.

Something happens, however, when I teach and focus on Jesus and only Jesus- peace begins to flow. It reminds me of the verse in Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”

So, if you find yourself in a state of chaos, frustration, hurt, pain, and or confusion, join me on this journey of looking to Jesus and only Jesus. Let’s call it an experiment- or a challenge. Let’s stop scrolling through inspirational TikToks and Instagram accounts for a month. Stop listening to podcasts that speak of anything outside of Jesus. For one month, let’s get off politics, turn off the noise, and just Behold Jesus, and let’s see what happens, shall we?

I may not have time to write daily, but I will do my best. I may only post short nuggets on my Facebook Page or create a short reel on my Instagram, but that should not stop you from having the resources to behold him. You have the Bible. You have the Spirit. Read books about Jesus, such as "Unveiling Jesus" by Tricia Gunn. "Awake to Righteousness" by Mark Greenwood. I wrote three Bible studies, which you can find here: https://www.lifeshare.church/knowtruth.

I will also be writing and sharing only the Good News of the Gospel, as I look only to Him - sharing where I am hearing Him for the day.

You can start right now with a short activation. Use the authority you have been given in Christ and command every thought that is not Jesus’ to be silenced. Command the voice of confusion to be silent. Command your thoughts to be quiet. And then welcome the voice of Jesus to speak to you clearly. Say, “Jesus, I want to see only YOU today. Show me where you are in the Bible and where you are in me and where you are in the people in my life.”
